Norfolk has proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Nene Valley Harriers high flyers this month. Last week it was Norwich, and on Sunday King's Lynn was the venue, as the city club qualified for the final of the East Anglian League with a high quality display of running, jumping and throwing.

Norfolk has proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Nene Valley Harriers high flyers this month. Last week it was Norwich, and on Sunday King's Lynn was the venue, as the city club qualified for the final of the East Anglian League with a high quality display of running, jumping and throwing.
The squad had an age range of nearly 40 years, and there were telling contributions from young and old alike as the Harriers secured the overall match win that they needed to ensure qualification for the end of season showdown at Bury St Edmund's on 13 September.
Nene Valley's athletes secured numerous individual victories across the age group categories, and won three of the seven sections outright, with a further three runners up placings.
Tom Maker won the under 17s B triple jump and Javelin on his club debut. Many of the regular high point scorers contributed on the day, with multiple victories being achieved by Kelsi Ellis, Emily Maltby. Elle-May Stokes,Tierney Augustine, Lydia Church. Jasmine Allen, Lucas Fidler, Chloe Squires,David Bush, Oliver Bowling and Natasha Segal whilst the Hughes Siblings, Lilly, Charles and William won an impressive six events between them.
Remarkably, in the senior Women's 100 and 200 metres races, Lilly Hughes and Natasha Segal recorded identical times of 12.6 and 25.8 seconds. The pair of sprinters finished over a second ahead of their nearest challengers.
With points available for two competitors in each event, filling as many places as possible is key to a successful meeting, and team manager Gary Huskisson has a committed squad, many of whom are willing to do whatever is necessary to help the team's cause. Alistair Pitts picked up points in the under 17's 100 hurdles, high jump and long jump, as did Lucy Molyneaux in the under 13's 100 metres, 200 metres and shot put. All-rounder,Rosie Fresen, had a quiet day by her versatile standards competing in the 300 metres and 80 metres hurdles. Fifteen year old Fresen, who regularly represents the Nene Valley senior team in the southern League, has this season alone turned her hand to the pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and hammer, as well as seven different track distances including the 2000 metres steeplechase.
This type of commitment should serve Nene Valley well in the finals, as they look to become East Anglian League champions for the first time.
