The first leg of this year's Eastern Veterans Track and Field League took place at St Ives on Wednesday, with Nene Valley Harriers and Peterborough AC drawn in the same division.

The first leg of this year's Eastern Veterans Track and Field League took place at St Ives on Wednesday, with Nene Valley Harriers and Peterborough AC drawn in the same division.

Peterborough AC took the honours in both the men's and ladies competitions, and their were some outstanding performances from members of both clubs.

Nene Valley's World Masters 400 metres bronze medalist, Dave Brown, took on Peterborough AC team Captain, Matthew Dalton, in the over 35 men's 200 metres. Brown won the race in a time of 23.7, finishing 0.5 of a second ahead of his city rival, who took 2nd place, whilst another Nene Valley World Masters medalist, Andrea Chapman won both the women's FV35 hammer and shot put by comfortable margins. Nicky Morgan, was first over the line in the ladies V35 3000 metres, and other Harriers victories were achieved by Simon Fell in the MV 35 3000 metres ,Simon Alchurch in both the MV35 shot putt and hammer, along with John Blackwell,who threw an impressive distance of 34.02 in the men's V60 hammer competition.

Peterborough AC also enjoyed plenty of successes, though perhaps their best performances came from 60 year old Eamonn Dorling who, just 3 days after an impressive showing in the London Marathon, took part in 4 events taking 2nd place in 3 of them.

British Masters champion pentathlete Stacy McGivern, displayed her all round prowess when winning the FV35 200 metres and long jump. Wendy Dunn took victory in the FV50 200 metres in an impressive time of 31.3 Peterborough AC enjoyed a good evening across all age groups, with Wendy Perkins winning the FV35 800 metres and Judith Jagger victorious in the Shot Putt and Hammer.

The ever consistent Dave Whitehead picked up victories in the Male 60 200 metres and long jump, whilst club vice chairman Lee Porter won the M35 long jump and Karl Eve took 1st place in the MV50 Shot Putt.
