Harrier League IV

04/02/2015
Round 4 of Nene Valley Harriers 5k winter handicap league took place at an icy Lynch Wood on Wednesday. Here's Bary warne's report.

Despite the unfavourable conditions some fast times were set, and Justin Hargate of the host club was first home in a personal best(PB)time of 18:16. Paul Atherfold of Yaxley Runners was the second athlete to finish, trailing Hargate by 20 seconds.

It proved to be a successful race for Stamford Striders, with the three runners who made the short trip down the A1 setting the fastest times of the evening. Mark Popple recorded a time of 17:15, with Jim Morris and James Skinner also completing the 3 lap course in under 18 minutes.

Nene Valley's Louise Blake and Sophie Wilkinson-Hargate were rewarded for fine runs by being the first and second ladies home.

With 2 legs of the 6 race series to go this is proving to be a closely contested event. Bushfield Jogger, Nilesh Patel holds a narrow lead over Yaxley's Matthew Benton, but another 7 runners are in close contention. The penultimate race of the series takes place at Lynch Wood on 4th March at the usual time of 7:00pm.
