The Eastern Counties Championships were held at Lea Valley over the weekend. Here's Ken's report.

On Saturday three under 15 Nene Valley ladies competed in the 60m. New member Alex Pullman recorded a personal best time of 8.66 in her heat and then improved on it finishing fourth in round two with 8.57. Jasmine Allen pulled up in the heat with a sore hamstring but still qualified for round two with a time of 8.54. Unfortunately due to the injury could not continue. Serena Korkmaz, also a new member ran 8.85 marginally slower than her personal best.

Alex then followed this up with a good jump of 4.76 to take the under 15 ladies silver medal - the first medal of the weekend.

Georgie Ivens continued her impressive 400m form for the season. She controlled her heat as planned from the gun to win the heat and qualify for the final. The plan was to control the final and she did exactly that, leading second placed Alex Hill by three meters at the break she picked up the effort round the third bend and broke away down the back straight. Winning the race with a championship best performance for senior ladies, club record and personal best 56.75 seconds. This was almost 2.3 seconds ahead of second place and 1.4 seconds quicker than the CBP.

Details of Jake Berney's race to follow.

James McCrae, under 20 men ran in the Midlands Championships at Birmingham on Saturday and Sunday. He ran a tactical 2:00.30 in his heat to qualify in second place for the final on Sunday. In the final he ran 1:59.56, a personal best indoor time to finish fourth.

A really good performance by these athletes. Well done!
