Athletics: Reidy excels in rare 800m race
17 September by Bob Frank, Peterborough Evening Telegraph
SEAN Reidy was the only athlete to break two minutes as Nene Valley Harriers held their 800m evening at the Embankment Track.

Reidy is the club's 400m hurdles club record-holder and ran 1.57.5 on his previous outing over the distance when winning the same event four years ago.

He kept up his impressive winning record over a distance he's far from keen on, running 1.59.74 but joking: "I like running one lap with 10 barriers more than two laps without!"

Chris Wright set a personal best in second, but was just outside two minutes, while two 16 year-olds more noted for other events were next over the line.

English Under 17 400m hurdles champion Ben Jones was third and took eight seconds off the personal best he set at the end of the East Anglian Schools pentathlon two years ago while sub-50 seconds 400m runner Darrellon Holding was just outside the 2.01.5 personal best he set for Cambridgeshire in the National Junior League this summer.

Aaron Shepherd was fifth, closely followed by Steve Cockrell and teenager Sam Hunt – who holds the current club records for the distance at both Under 15 and Under 17 at former club Werrington Joggers – who both set personal bests.

Josh Lunn and Tom Dunn set personal bests to win the B and C races respectively while youth got the better of experience in both the D and E races – Callum Reid beating newcomer Lee Morgan and Josh Gull setting a personal best to hold off Lance Hemmings.

Emma Randall was the fastest female, finishing second in the F race behind Adam Caress.
