Nene Valley's Under 17 men win 19 events out of 21 at King's Lynn
Published Date: 06 August 2009
By Bob Frank, Peterborough Evening Telegraph
NENE Valley Harriers won three age groups and the overall match at the East Anglian League at King's Lynn.
The city club’s Under 17 men were in particularly good form as they won 19 out of 21 events they contested to win the age group by 46 points. The versatile Harry Wells won three events, Darrellon Holding produced a sprint double and Richard Reed won the 400m and 800m.
David Bush gave good support to Reed in the 400m and also added 9cm to his personal best (PB) when winning the javelin. Another to set a PB was Nathan Wood who shaved two tenths of a second off his 1500m time when winning by a couple of seconds.
The Under 15 girls and Under 13 girls also came out on top. There were two middle-distance doubles for the Under 15 girls, Paige Lambert and Charlie Wing securing maximum points in the 800m and Steph Burton and Jade Carvath-Smith doing likewise in the 1500m - the latter taking three seconds off her PB. Brooke Taylor (shot) and Pam Jacobs (javelin) were the club’s other A-string winners in the age group.
Emma Hornsby chalked up two wins for the successful Under 13 girls squad while Annie Dalton took five seconds off her PB to take the 1500m. Greg Dunn was another 1500m runner to improve his PB, although he had to settle for second place in the Under 15 boys age group.
The senior women finished second with their throwers in particularly good form. Youngster Sophie Hallam set a season’s best to win the javelin, where Andrea Jenkins took the B-string. It also came as no surprise that Jenkins won the A-string shot and discus. Pick of the track performers for the women was teenager Georgie Ivens with a 200m/400m double.
The senior men were not particularly strong in numbers, having given their all at the Southern Men’s League 24 hours earlier, but Simon Achurch was again in great form with four throws victories. On the track, youngster Sam Hunt may have been beaten into second but he was just a shade outside his PB.
